Meadview Store and
Gas Station
On the far east end of Lake Mead is a small community called
Meadview. It is very likely you have never heard of it because it's a well kept
secret by those want to keep that area of the lake quite for themselves. If you're
coming from Phoenix, this is the closest area to go to launch your boat on Lake
Mead. If coming from Vegas or Los Angeles, it's well worth the drive to get
away from the crowds during the summer season, especially if you plan to stay longer than
a weekend. Meadview has motels, stores, gas, an RV
Park, practically all the basics you will
need. But the nearest marina is 15 miles from the South Cove launch ramp...... which
keeps things quite.
Above I'm gassing up my boat at Meadview Market
after a weekend of fun. If you're considering a visit
to the east-lake area and want a weather report, call the Meadview Exxon/Market, (520)
564-2290. They are the nicest people and can help you with almost any questions
about the area. The appearance of this market is
deceiving, you'll find they have almost everything, including an ATM machine.
Joshua Tree Forest
Perched high upon the desert plain Meadview is host to one the
largest Joshua tree forests in the country. There are miles of these trees up to 13'
tall, as far as you can see. This picture doesn't do the forest justice, just
wait till you see them.
Fantastic view of
lake mead, don't miss this
When visiting Meadview don't miss the chance to get a picture
from this incredible vantage point on Pearce Rd just outside Meadview which is
at about 3000' elevation. With Lake Mead at 1200' elevation (full
pool) that
puts you way up there, 1800' higher than the lake. You've
probably already guessed that Meadview's town name was derived from this picturesque
"view of Lake Mead". In the distance you can even see the water of
Overton Arm, about 20 miles from this high viewpoint. Temple basin is about 13 miles
away.
